Jessica Caputo’s paintings are derived from pulling apart Euclidean geometric shapes and reworking them into symbolic designs which are primarily relevant to her Polish & Native American heritage. One of her influences is the Polish paper cutting art of wycinanki, in which paper is cut away and layered in order to create a design. Jessica takes a similar approach in her work by starting with a basic geometric structure and building a pattern by removing & adding lines. Her strategic use of color illuminates the 2-dimensional figures and patterns found in the classically constructed intersecting circles and lines. There is no tape used, each color is hand applied with great care and in many layers so that the colors are in their most saturated form. The juxtaposition of complementary colors intentionally produces an exciting vibrant effect.
